Sunday, May 29th<\/sup> through Sunday, July 10th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

You’re invited to an Opening Reception and a special presentation by John Conway on Sunday, May 29, 2016<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the exhibition period, several additional presentations and hikes along headwaters are planned.<\/p>\n

EXHIBITION DETAILS<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0 On loan from the Time and the Valleys Museum<\/strong> in Grahamsville, NY, the collaborative exhibition \u201cCelebrating Catskill Waters: Past and Present\u201d<\/strong><\/em> explores the enjoyment Catskill waters have brought to area residents and visitors through SWIMMING, FISHING and BOATING over the past 150 years.\u00a0 More than 35 individuals, museums, historical societies and municipalities in Sullivan County joined together to create this exhibition, including the Sullivan County Historical Society, Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, Catskill Watershed Corporation, Basket Historical Society of the Upper Delaware Valley, Sullivan County Historian John Conway, Debra Conway of The Delaware Company,\u00a0 and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, NPS.<\/p>\n

Sunday, May 29 at 4:00pm<\/span>:\u00a0 <\/strong>Sullivan County Historian, John Conway<\/strong><\/span>, kicks off the exhibition, examining the recreational uses of Catskill waters in his presentation “Rivers and Lakes and Streams, Oh My! The History of Recreational Water Use in Sullivan County<\/strong>.” Sullivan County\u2019s rivers and lakes and streams have been a critical component in the history of tourism here, every bit as important as the comedians and basketball players in building what became for many years the greatest tourism destination in the country.\u00a0 In fact, as tourism became the area\u2019s number one industry, many of the ponds that had been utilized, and in some cases, even created, for industrial purposes, became lakes overnight.\u00a0 Pike Pond became Kenoza Lake, Long Pond became Tennanah Lake, Pleasant Pond became Kiamesha Lake, and so on, all in an attempt to better compete for the tourism dollar.<\/p>\n

Following Conway\u2019s presentation, at approximately 5:00pm<\/strong><\/span>, the public is invited to an Opening Reception<\/strong> <\/span>for the exhibition, hosted by the Time and the Valleys Museum and Morgan Outdoors.<\/p>\n
