The public is invited to join a Guided History Hike along the new Walnut Mountain House History Trail at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty, NY.
Length/Difficulty: 60-minute (approx. 1 mile) round-trip hike along wide, gently uphill carriage roads. The walk to Walnut Mountain House’s remaining foundation is suitable for many ability levels.
Leaders: Ruth Huggler and Lisa Lyons, the History Trail’s research team, with support from Town of Liberty, Parks & Recreation.
Hike Description: Participants will take a trip back in time to 1886-87 when the Walnut Mountain House (WMH) was built at the summit of Walnut Mountain. The new trail includes six interpretive panels which were funded in part by a Municipal Partnership Grant from Sullivan 180. Wooden benches contributed by the Liberty Central School Interact Club invite hikers to pause for a break along the way.
Meet at the baseball field parking area, Walnut Mountain Rd (off Rt 55), Liberty. The hike starts promptly at 4:00 pm. This history hike is not for dogs. Please register in advance as shown below to help us prepare.
