Guided History and Fall Foliage Hike at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty, NY.

60-minute (approx. 1 mile) round-trip walk gently uphill on wide carriage roads.

Trip leaders are volunteers Lisa Lyons and Ruth Huggler, with James Guara of Liberty Parks & Recreation. Take a trip back in time to 1886-87 when the Walnut Mountain House was built at the summit of Walnut Mountain. Today, just the foundation remains.

The volunteer research team (Lisa and Ruth) will describe the interpretive panel project underway with the Town of Liberty to shine light on this interesting part of Liberty history. Who built it and what happened to it? You might catch the history bug and want to help the research team fill in missing details!

The hike starts promptly at 4:00 pm. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and warm layers. No dogs on this history hike please. If you would like to borrow hiking poles, let us know and we’ll bring a pair for you.

REGISTER by Saturday, October 19 at 6:00 PM – Call Lisa at Morgan Outdoors (845) 693-4181 to get the meeting location.
