Saturday, May 23rd at 5:30 PM, join Joyce Garber of Bethel, NY for an exciting program, THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL; An Adventure for All Ages.
An alternate title might be “if you can’t do it all, do what you can!”

Now in her 70’s and not feeling capable of hiking the whole 2,189 miles, Joyce could not get the idea of the Appalachian Trail (AT) out of her mind. So she chose a grand compromise. Over 2 years, bit by bit, she drove to trail crossings in each of the 14 states the trail passes through, from Georgia to Maine, and hiked as far as she could in a day. She’ll share why these section hikes are so satisfying and describe sections just a short drive from this area.

Joyce’s story is humorous and inspiring. Having read dozens of personal accounts about hiking the AT, joining AT organizations, and ordering an entire set of official AT guide books, Joyce she mapped out her route, picked out the trail towns she wanted to visit, and helped thru hikers she met along the way with food and rides.

Find out how to get the most out of your hike on the AT. Learn about several nearby sections to kickoff a first hike on the AT as well as suggestions for hiking in other states. “Walk, hike, dance, whatever stride you choose, you can do it on the AT” says Joyce. “There are sections just waiting for you!”

This program is geared to adults but children are welcome. There will be “trail magic” door prizes, refreshments, and a special AT log book so all who have hiked any part of the AT can enter their hike details.
