Celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6th
with a special talk and walk.
1:00pm: Rick Roberts, the Catskill Maintenance Coordinator for the Finger Lakes Trail Conference (FLT) will be here to present an overview of the 90-mile section of the 570-mile FLT trail as is makes its way through the Catskills.
WHERE the heck is it? Can we hike all the way from the Finger Lakes to the Catskills? Rick will touch on the history of the Finger Lakes Trail Conference and highlights of the FLT in the Catskills, from north of Cannonsville Reservoir eastwards towards Slide Mt.
He’ll bring maps of the Catskill portion of the FLT, information cards, and the Finger Lakes Trail News.
2:30pm: HIKE THE FLT. Following the talk, Rick will lead a 1.2-mile hike to Split Rock (2.4 miles total) along the FLT section comprising the Mary Smith and Pelnor Hollow Trails. This intermediate hike has one steep section near the Split Rock overlook. START at Mary Smith trailhead on Holliday/Berry Brook Rd. at approximately 2:30 pm. Sturdy footwear recommended.
POLES: Morgan Outdoors will provide LEKI hiking poles at no cost to the first 6 people who reserve them, in celebration of National Trails Day. Let us show you how hiking poles make steep sections easy to handle!
This free public event is sponsored by the Catskill Mountain Club, with support from Morgan Outdoors.
