Sunday, March 24 at 3:30 pm, the public is invited to join a Guided History Hike at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty, NY. This will be a 60-minute (approx. 1 mile) round-trip walk along wide, gently uphill carriage roads. The trip leaders are volunteers Lisa Lyons and Ruth Huggler, with support from Liberty Parks & Recreation. Since the group size is limited, early registration is recommended.

We will take a trip back in time to 1886-87 when the Walnut Mountain House was built at the summit of Walnut Mountain while we walk to its remaining foundation. The hike takes place before the leaves unfurl, offering participants a chance to see what the views must have been like when most of the mountain was cleared.  Dogs on leash are welcome; please register them in advance.

REGISTER by SATURDAY, MARCH 23 by calling Lisa at Morgan Outdoors (845) 693-4181. Registrants will receive the meeting location and other hike details. Several pairs of hiking poles will be available to sample.

Walnut Mountain is a 265-acre Town Park – with historic carriage roads and recently constructed mountain bike trails adding to Liberty Parks & Recreation’s trail network. Here is a copy of their trail map:
